6 Warning Signs You May Have Termites

Termites are often called "silent destroyers" because damage can occur for years before visible signs appear. Know what to look for.

🪵

Hollow-Sounding Timber

Tap on timber flooring, skirting boards, or wall frames. A hollow sound indicates termites have consumed the wood from the inside out.

🌡️

Mud Tubes on Walls

Pencil-thin mud tunnels along foundations, exterior walls, or crawl spaces are a telltale sign of subterranean termite highways.

🚪

Stiff or Hard-to-Open Doors

As termites eat through door frames, the excess moisture warps timber, causing doors and windows to become difficult to open or close.

🌿

Discarded Wings Near Windows

Termite swarmers (alates) shed their wings after finding a new nest site. Piles of tiny wings near doors and windows signal a new colony forming.

🕳️

Small Holes in Timber or Plaster

Pin-sized holes in drywall, plaster, or timber surfaces can indicate termite exit points. You may also notice fine powdery frass nearby.

💧

Blistering or Bubbling Paint

Paint that looks water-damaged — blistering, bubbling, or sagging — may actually be termite damage underneath, not a plumbing issue.

What's Included in Our Termite Management

We offer a complete suite of termite-related services — from initial inspection through to treatment and ongoing monitoring.

01

Termite Inspection (AS 3660)

Comprehensive visual and instrument-assisted inspection of all accessible areas of your property. Covers interior, exterior, subfloor, roof void, garden beds, trees, fences, and outbuildings. Includes moisture readings and thermal assessment where applicable.

02

Chemical Soil Barrier Treatment

Application of a continuous chemical barrier in the soil around and beneath your property. Creates a long-lasting zone of protection that termites cannot cross without being detected or eliminated.

03

Termite Baiting Systems

Installation of in-ground monitoring and baiting stations around the perimeter of your property. Stations are checked regularly and loaded with bait to eliminate active colonies at their source.

04

Physical Termite Barriers

Installation of physical stainless steel mesh or crushed granite barriers in critical areas during construction. Provides long-term mechanical protection without reliance on chemicals.

05

Active Infestation Treatment

Targeted treatment using foam, dust, or direct injection applications to eliminate active termite colonies within the structure. Followed by a full assessment to determine the extent of structural damage.

06

Annual Monitoring Programs

Scheduled annual inspections to maintain your termite management system and ensure your property remains protected year-round. Includes written reports and system maintenance.

Termite Treatment Solutions

Every property is different. We recommend the most effective treatment based on your specific situation, termite species, and infestation severity.

💉

Chemical Soil Barrier

Most Effective

A continuous chemical barrier is applied to the soil around and under the slab, creating a treated zone that termites cannot cross undetected.

  • Termidor® & Altriset® compliant products
  • 8–10 year protection lifespan
  • Safe for children and pets once cured
  • Suitable for most residential properties
🪤

Baiting System

Colony Elimination

In-ground monitoring stations are installed around the perimeter. When termites are detected, bait is introduced to eliminate the entire colony at its source.

  • Eliminates the queen and colony
  • Minimal disruption to property
  • Ideal for slab-on-ground homes
  • Ongoing monitoring included
🛡️

Physical Barrier

New Construction

Stainless steel mesh or granular granite barriers installed during construction stage, providing a permanent, chemical-free mechanical barrier against termite entry.

  • Permanent — no re-treatment needed
  • Chemical-free protection
  • Compliant with AS 3660.1
  • Ideal for new builds

Common Termite Questions

Everything you need to know about termite inspection and management.

How often should I get a termite inspection?
Australian Standards (AS 3660) recommend a professional termite inspection at least once every 12 months. Properties in high-risk areas or with previous termite history may require inspections every 6 months.
Does home insurance cover termite damage?
Most standard home insurance policies do NOT cover termite damage, as it is considered a maintenance issue rather than a sudden event. This is why proactive prevention and regular inspections are essential.
How long does a termite inspection take?
A thorough termite inspection typically takes 2–3 hours for a standard residential property. Larger homes or those with extensive subfloor or roof space may take longer. You're welcome to be present throughout.
Are termite treatments safe for my family?
All treatments we use are registered with the APVMA and are applied strictly according to label requirements. Chemical barriers are safe for occupants, children, and pets once the treated area has dried — typically within a few hours.
I'm buying a home — do I need a termite inspection?
Absolutely. A pre-purchase termite inspection is strongly recommended before any property transaction. Discovering active termites or significant damage post-purchase can result in tens of thousands of dollars in remediation costs.
